Sharing with shared spaces
Plan alongside other people by sharing a space of projects.
Where sync keeps your devices in step, a shared space lets you plan alongside other people. It's a named container of projects that everyone in the space can see and work on together.
How it works#
A shared space is its own independent sync pipe with its own storage location. Everyone who joins points their app at the same location — a shared folder, WebDAV or S3, exactly like personal sync. If you don't have a location yet, Setting up your sync storage walks you through getting one for free. Projects you file under the space sync to everyone in it; your personal projects, under your own areas, stay private.
Set one up#
- Open Settings → Shared Spaces and add a space.
- Give it a name and pick a storage location everyone can access — a shared folder, WebDAV or S3. Need one? See Setting up your sync storage for free, step-by-step options.
- Press Test connection, then create the space.
- Share those same connection details with the people you want to collaborate with, so they can point their app at the same location.
Once connected, projects filed under the space appear for everyone.
Give the space its own location
A shared space needs a location of its own — don't reuse the folder or bucket that already backs your personal sync or another space. Todebaran detects the clash and refuses it. With an S3 bucket you can reuse one bucket by giving each space a different Prefix. See One location per pipe.
Joining a space someone shared#
To join an existing space, you don't create anything new — you point at the same location the others use:
- Settings → Shared Spaces, add a space, and enter the same connection details you were given (the same folder, or the same WebDAV/S3 values).
- Todebaran notices the location already holds a space and joins it rather than starting a fresh one — the space keeps the name it was created with. Wait for the first round to finish and its projects appear in your sidebar.
Leaving or removing a space#
- Leave a space to stop syncing it on this device; the others keep it.
- Destroy a space to tear it down.
A shared space is ideal for a household or a small team: one space for "Home projects" or "Launch," with everyone's tasks in one place — while your private work stays yours.
