Getting started

Installation

Download Todebaran and get set up on your Mac.

Todebaran is a macOS app, with Windows and Linux on the way.

Download#

Grab the latest build from the download page, which offers two Mac builds:

  • Apple Silicon — most Macs from 2020 onward (M1, M2, M3 and later).
  • Intel — older Macs.

Not sure which one you have? Click the Apple menu → About This Mac. If it says "Apple M1/M2/M3…", choose Apple Silicon. Otherwise choose Intel.

First launch#

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag Todebaran to your Applications folder.
  2. Launch it — a short onboarding walks you through the basics and asks about anonymous, opt-out diagnostics.
  3. That's it. No account is required — everything works offline, and you own your data from the first launch.

Sign in only when you need to

You only sign in to carry a Pro subscription across devices. Todebaran's sync works without any Todebaran account.

Moving to a new Mac#

Setting up another Mac — or replacing an old one? Install Todebaran fresh and turn on sync pointed at the same location; the new Mac pulls your data down on its own.

Install fresh, don't copy the data folder

Don't copy Todebaran's application data folder from one Mac to another. A copied install looks like a duplicate device and Todebaran has to re-register it. Let sync do the transfer instead — see Adding another Mac.

Updating#

The direct download updates itself automatically in the background. You can also check manually in Settings → About, and see what changed on the changelog.

The Mac App Store edition updates through the App Store instead, and its in-app purchase options differ. See Your account & Pro.
