Capturing with Quick Add
Add a task from anywhere, without losing your place.
The moment you have to leave the app to write something down is the moment you lose it. Quick Add is a floating capture card you can summon from anywhere — even when Todebaran isn't focused — so a passing thought lands somewhere trusted and you get straight back to what you were doing.
Open it from anywhere#
Press Ctrl Space — the one global shortcut that works no matter which app you're in. You can also open Quick Add by clicking the menu-bar icon, if you've set its click action to Quick Add in Settings → General.
Prefer a different key? Rebind Quick Add in Settings → Shortcuts. It's the only shortcut that fires system-wide.
Capture as much or as little as you like#
Quick Add isn't just a title box — it's the full task editor in miniature. Type a title and press ⌘↵ to save, or flesh the task out first:
- a note,
- subtasks,
- tags,
- a schedule and a deadline,
- and which project it belongs to.
Leave everything else blank and the task simply lands in your Inbox to be sorted later.
Recurrence and slips are left out of Quick Add to keep capture fast — add those later from the full editor. Typing a title doesn't auto-detect dates; set the date in the schedule field, which understands natural language like "tomorrow" or "in 3 days" (see Scheduling).
Save or cancel#
- ⌘↵ — save the task and dismiss the card.
- Esc — cancel.
An empty draft won't save — the card gives a little shake instead. Next, learn how tasks are organized.
