Themes & appearance
Light and dark themes, accent colors, and custom looks.
Todebaran is made to be shaped to your taste. Set it up once in Settings → Appearance and it follows you everywhere in the app.
Light, dark, or automatic#
Choose a mode — Light, Dark, or Auto to follow your Mac's appearance — then pick which theme applies in each. The built-in themes are:
| Appearance | Themes |
|---|---|
| Light | Light, Library, Pink |
| Dark | Dark, Cyber, Dracula |
Accent color#
Pick an accent — the color used for highlights and selection. Keep the theme's own accent, choose from a large named palette, or set an exact custom color by hex, RGB or the color picker.
You can also tune how the sidebar uses color — highlighted items, icon colors, and whether the accent follows a folder's color — under Settings → Sidebar.
Custom themes#
With Pro you can create your own. Add Theme starts from your current look;
the Theme Editor then lets you set the name, mode, background and accent.
Custom themes can be exported and imported as a .json file, so you can back
one up or share it.
A background image#
Add a background image with ⌘I for a more personal feel — the interface stays legible on top of it. You can set one on almost any page and fine-tune how it looks; see Background images for the details.
Start with a built-in theme and just change the accent — it's the quickest way to make Todebaran feel like yours without fuss.
