Background images

A background image gives a page a personal feel. You can set one on nearly every view in Todebaran, reuse the same image across pages, and fine-tune exactly how it sits behind your content. Your images and their settings travel with sync.

Adding an image#

Press ⌘I on any page to open the background panel, then get an image in two ways:

• Import — click Import and pick one or more images (JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or SVG).
• Drag and drop — drop image files straight onto the panel.

Everything you add goes into a single image library you can reuse everywhere — importing a picture doesn't tie it to one page.

Putting one on a page#

With the panel open, click a thumbnail to set it as the current page's background, or click None to clear it. You can set a background on almost every page — Today, Upcoming, Inbox, Calendar, your projects and smart lists, even Completed and Trash. (A couple of overview pages — the Collections and Slips lists — don't take one.)

Drag thumbnails to reorder your library; newly imported images appear first.

Fine-tuning the look#

Each image has a settings popover (the gear on its thumbnail) where you can adjust:

• Opacity — how strong the image is behind your content.
• Vertical position — which part of the image shows.
• Blur — soften the image.
• Shadow — how far it fades into the page background.
• Seamlessness — how smoothly it blends at the edges.
• Height — how tall the image area is, in pixels or as a share of the window.
• Scroll effects — let the image subtly blur and scale as you scroll.

A Reset button returns everything to its defaults.

Reusing across pages#

• Use parent image — a project or list inside another folder inherits that folder's background by default. Uncheck Use parent image in the panel to give it its own instead. (Top-level items and built-in views like Today always use their own image.)
• Apply to all — set one image as the background for every eligible page at once, or apply None to clear them all.

Removing an image#

Delete an image from the library with the trash button in its settings popover (or select it and press ⌫). Any page that was using it simply falls back to no background.

Backgrounds and sync#

Your image library and each image's settings sync to all your Macs. Background images are kept separately from your file library, so they don't show up in Files.
