Getting started

First launch

What to expect the first time you open Todebaran.

The first time you open Todebaran, a short onboarding introduces the app and gets you straight to work. Here's what happens — and what it doesn't ask of you.

No account, no setup#

Todebaran opens ready to use. You don't need to create an account or sign in, and nothing is uploaded anywhere. Your tasks live on your Mac from the very first launch. You only ever sign in later if you want Pro across devices.

The welcome tour#

Onboarding is three short steps:

  1. Welcome — a short tour of what Todebaran does: tasks, projects and collections; calendar and smart lists; focus mode; and slips with thermal printing.
  2. Help improve Todebaran — the two diagnostics switches, described below.
  3. Pro — a look at what Pro adds, and the option to start a free trial. The default action is simply to start using the free app.

Nothing here asks for an account or a payment method, and every page's default answer is the one that costs you nothing.

A quick word on diagnostics#

The second step asks whether to share anonymous diagnostics — crash reports and usage analytics. Both are optional, both default on, and neither ever includes the content of your tasks or notes. Your answer is saved the moment you flip a switch, so it holds whatever you do next. Change your mind any time in Settings → About. See Your data & privacy.

First things to try#

Once you're in, get a feel for the app:

  • Press ⌘N to add your first task.
  • Press ⌘K to search and jump around.
  • Press Ctrl Space to capture a thought from anywhere.
