Your data & privacy

Todebaran is a local-first app: your tasks live on your Mac, not in someone else's cloud. Here's exactly where things are and what leaves your device.

Where your data lives#

Everything — tasks, projects, notes, slips — is stored in a local database on your Mac, with images and attachments alongside it in the app's data folder. Nothing is uploaded anywhere unless you turn on sync, and even then it goes only to the storage you chose. Note that sync writes your data there as plain, unencrypted files — see Your data in that storage — so pick a location you trust.

Backing up#

There's no separate "export your data" button, because there are a couple of better ways to keep your data safe:

• Sync to an iCloud/Dropbox folder, WebDAV or S3 — your changes are copied there continuously. See Syncing across devices.
• Time Machine or any Mac backup captures the app's data folder along with everything else.

A few individual things can be exported as files: themes and keyboard shortcuts (as .json), and any slip (as an image).

What's collected#

Todebaran collects only anonymous, opt-out diagnostics — and never the content of your tasks or notes. You're asked about this during onboarding, and you can change it any time in Settings → About:

• Crash reporting — anonymous error reports that help fix bugs.
• Usage analytics — anonymous, aggregate usage (things like app version and platform), with no task or note content and no precise location.
