Recovering deleted items
Get back a task you deleted — or find one you completed.
Deleted or lost a task? It's usually still there. Todebaran doesn't delete things out from under you.
Restore from Trash#
Deleting a task moves it to the Trash (⌘8), not oblivion.
- Open the Trash.
- Find the task — you can search and page through it.
- Restore it, and it returns to where it lived.
Trash empties itself after 30 days
Items in the Trash are permanently deleted 30 days after you trashed them, and Empty Trash removes them at once. If you might want something back, restore it before then.
Can't find a completed task?#
A completed task isn't deleted — it's filed in the Completed logbook (⌘7), where your full history stays browsable and searchable. If a task "vanished," it was most likely completed rather than deleted. Reopen it from Completed to make it active again.
Tasks you completed more than 30 days ago drop out of the day-to-day views to keep them light, but they're never removed — the Completed logbook still has them.
Restoring a whole project#
Deleting a project moves its tasks to the Trash. Restore the tasks from there within the 30-day window if you deleted a project by mistake.
Guarding against loss#
The surest safety net is a copy off the machine: turn on sync to a folder, WebDAV or S3, or keep a Time Machine backup. See Your data & privacy.
